When it comes to the reason why they purchased the sex doll, most of them reported that the main reason was sexual, but there was also a fair share of participants from whom companionship was the main factor in purchasing the sex doll. Another thing they were requested to answer was who knows about the fact that they own a sex doll - and the results were quite surprising considering there’s a belief that most sex doll owners are very secretive about it. As it turns out, the highest number of participants confined in an online community (which shouldn’t be surprising considering the nature of the study), their romantic partner and close friends about it, with family members and neighbors also making it onto the list. 

Sex Doll Usage

Based on another survey that involved more than 8000 answers, a vast majority of people who bought a sex doll have used it at least once. However, not all of them did, as over 13% of participants declared that while they had purchased one, they hadn’t made use of it yet.

But out of those who have used their sex doll before, just how many do it regularly? According to the answers, over 60% of sex doll users do it at least once a month. On the other hand, almost 20% of them have tried it once and have not gone back to it since.

When it comes to how they used the sex doll, there aren’t many surprises here - most participants used it for solo play, but there was also a significant percentage that used it either during intercourse or during foreplay.

Finally, the last question that the participants were asked to answer was if the decision to purchase the sex doll was made after they talked to their partner about it. As it turns out, most of them - over 70% - have made the decision without discussing it with their partner beforehand.

First, let’s talk about sex doll sales. Almost 10% of male Americans own a sex doll, with women being not that far behind, as according to research, over 6% of them are sex doll owners. As for the sales in general, they have greatly increased due to COVID-19. In 2020, so in the first year of the pandemic, sex dolls have noticed a 75% increase in sales compared to 2019. Quite impressive, isn’t it?

And as it turns out, the market is only supposed to increase. In 2021, the sex doll market was valued at almost 329 million dollars, and if its compound annual growth rate (CAGR) remains more or less at the same level, then the number is forecast to increase to an impressive 596 million by 2027.
